Privacy Policy
This policy describes how the Screen Break Keeper browser extension (the “Extension”, “we”) handles information when you use it. The Extension is a focus timer with immersive full-screen break overlays: it accrues time on sites you configure, then shows a full-screen rest screen (built-in pet-style themes such as panda, cats, and dogs, or media you choose). Data is stored on your device by default. There is no publisher sign-in or cloud account required for normal use.

This page is provided for the Chrome Web Store and for user transparency.
1. Summary
- We do not sell your data and we do not use the Extension to build cross-site advertising profiles.
- Normal operation does not upload your settings or uploaded break media to our servers.
- The Extension injects scripts and styles on pages you visit so it can apply your site rules, track time, and show the full-screen break when the limit is reached.
If you do not agree with this policy, please uninstall the Extension.
2. What the Extension does
- Accrues focus time on the active tab when it matches your allowlist / exclude rules and your pause state.
- At your configured limit, displays an overlay that covers the page with a break experience (presets or your uploads).
- Uses one coherent timer model across tabs, as described in the Extension UI.
3. Permissions (as declared in manifest.json)
| Permission | Purpose |
|---|---|
storage, unlimitedStorage |
Stores your settings (site lists, timer values, theme and backdrop options) and optional user-uploaded break media, which may be large. |
alarms |
Runs timer-related scheduling in the background service worker. |
tabs |
Reads the active tab URL and hostname (and related tab state) to apply your rules, trigger or preview breaks, and similar in-product behavior. |
scripting |
Injects scripts needed for the break overlay in coordination with the Extension’s content scripts. |
host_permissions (http://*/*, https://*/*) |
Lets content scripts run and the overlay appear on pages you open. This is not intended to batch-upload your full browsing history to the developer. |
4. Information processed
4.1 Page and tab signals
- To enforce your allowlist or exclusions, the Extension processes the tab URL and hostname and whether the tab is eligible to accrue time (for example active tab, pause state—see the product behavior).
- There is no default cloud sync of these signals to the publisher for unrelated analytics.
4.2 Local storage (chrome.storage.local)
May include site rule lists, focus/break parameters, theme and backdrop preferences, and encoded user media. It is stored in local extension storage. Uninstalling the Extension or clearing extension data typically removes it (browser-dependent).
4.3 Network transmission
Core features do not upload your break media or full browsing history to publisher-operated servers. Internally, the Extension may resolve packaged resources using chrome-extension:// URLs; that is not sending your personal content to third-party websites.
5. Third parties
Normal use does not rely on analytics, advertising, or remote databases from third parties as part of core functionality. If optional network features are added in a future version, we will update this policy and the store listing.
6. Security & retention
- Data remains on your device until you clear it or uninstall.
- No storage or transmission method is perfectly secure.
7. Children
The Extension is not directed at children under 16 to collect personal data.
8. International transfers
Because core data stays on your device, international transfer is minimal for Extension-local storage. If you contact us by email, message handling may occur in various countries where mailbox providers operate.
9. Changes
We may update this policy; the “Last updated” date will change. Material changes may be noted in the Chrome Web Store listing where practical.
